Apollo Geophysics provided over 11,000 feet of surface seismic refraction and downhole seismic services to support characterization of a soils within a bedrock valley in the City of Seattle's Cedar River Watershed. Apollo Geophysics completed their seismic survey under very difficult terrain and weather conditions including a wind storm and snow storm that shut down watershed operations... read more -Deb Ladd, PE, LHG Senior Geotechnical Engineer / Hydrogeologist View All |
Construction Vibration Control & Monitoring
Construction monitoring covers a wide range of monitoring applications including monitoring for both continuous and transient vibrations. This type of monitoring is usually done to comply with local, state or federal regulations and often requires the monitoring of three ground and one air-overpressure channels. The regulations may also require the General Contractor to provide an infield printout of the vibration records. Vibration monitoring allows the General Contractor to control construction activities to minimize the potential for vibration-induced damage to existing structures and/or utilities APOLLO GEOPHYSICS provided Vibration Monitoring Services at a Waste Water Treatment Plant site in Idaho at the request of the general contractor. The purpose of the program was to measure vibration intensities created from H-beam pile driving activities at the site. Ground vibrations consist of a combination of several different wave types (i.e. body & surface waves) traveling through different materials such as air, water and rock, which produce particle velocities (i.e. vibration intensities) and a dominant frequency (Hertz) at a distance from the vibration source (i.e. pile driving activities). The vibration intensities fade out with distance from the source and the dominant frequency become negligible.
